South Carolina's Superintendent of Education says he support a bill which would "ax the PACT”. The Education Accountability Act reform bill introduced Tuesday is based on recommendations from two statewide task forces appointed by Dr. Jim Rex last summer.
Dr. Rex says the proposed legislation would replace the statewide testing program with new end-of-the year accountability tests. It also would require “formative” assessments in certain subjects to provide immediate feedback to teachers on individual strengths and weaknesses and revise the annual report card to make it more understandable and useful for parents.
The bill is sponsored by Rep. Bob Walker, sponsored by House Education Committee Chairman Bob Walker (R-Spartanburg) and co-sponsored by more than 40 Republicans and Democrats.
