A 14-year old boy charged in the murder of 8-year old Dymia Woody waived his hearing in family court in Greenville Thursday afternoon.
The teenager is being taken to Columbia where he will be held. His next hearing will be Thursday, July 10.
Greenville County deputies arrested the 14 year old boy and charged him with murder, criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping.
Investigators believe the teen knew his victim; he lived in the neighborhood where the crime happened. Deputies say the teen met with investigators Wednesday, where he and his mother were told about the charges. It will be up to the Solicitor's Office will have to decide whether to upgrade the charges.
Deputies say part of the decision to arrest the teen was made based on DNA results. The teen will be held pending a Family Court hearing.
Authorities served a search warrant and entered a home in the neighborhood where and 8-year-old was found dead Wednesday evening.
Dymia Janae Woody's body was found in an abandoned mobile home Tuesday.
Deputies say Dymia was last seen playing in a neighborhood near Old Grove and Hosten Road Monday night around 9:00 p.m.
Around midnight, the Sheriff's Office found her body Tuesday afternoon, the coroner's office released details of the autopsy. The autopsy revealed Woody died from "asphyxiation due to her breathing being obstructed." There were also signs of sexual assault.
"Something we're looking at is why she was in here. Is this a place she came willingly or somebody took her in here," said Master Deputy Michael Hildebrand of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. "That will be part of the investigation."
The family of Dymia Woody tells News Channel 7 the young girl's funeral will be held Saturday at 4:00pm at Rock Of The Ages Baptist Church.
