The Greenville Coroner’s Office confirms a Simpsonville woman’s plunge off a building was suicide following Friday morning's autopsy. Deputy Coroner Ken Coppins says 44 year old Angela Lykes died from multiple blunt force trauma due to suicide. She jumped to her death Thursday at one Liberty Square in downtown Greenville. It's a seventeen story building. Coppins says toxilogoy tests will not be back for a while. Lykes' death follows Tuesday's suicide of a Cowpen's man in the parking lot at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. The man used a shotgun to take his life, before law enforcement officers say they found a suicide note in his truck.
Counselor Roger Rhoades says suicide is a very public problem. "It's huge. We have people killing themselves all the time. I don't even want to back up from that. Huge. We put it under the table," says Rhoades. He says it's up to all of us to try and prevent it. Dr. Rhoades says everyone needs to learn to feel comfortable talking about suicide, "Don't be afraid of the S word. Use it. Use it. Use it. Talk with your kids about it. Talk about your friends with it.
