Streets Back Open After Water Main Break

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

A water main break shuts down traffic in Spartanburg for hours. Police call the break very serious and expected hours worth of repairs. The break is near the intersection of Union and St. Andrews streets in Spartanburg. Traffic was limited during the morning commute, but lanes re-opened later on Monday morning. We're told the break was on a cast iron pipe first put in in the 1930s. Five homes and three businesses were without water this morning during repairs. Crews are still looking at the road to figure out how the pipe busted. Crews immediately shut down that section of Union Street after the break early this morning. We're told the situation will not have an affect on our drought status. A representative from Spartanburg Water System tells us the recent rains have led to a lower demand from customers so the break should not hurt Spartanburg’s water supply.
