A jury found a man charged with breaking into a home and murdering the person inside guilty Thursday.
The Spartanburg County Solicitor's office told News Channel 7 that Howard Sims was given two life sentences in the case.
Spartanburg Public Safety Officers say Sims stabbed John Lammers multiple times in his home on Carlton Drive June 1, 2007.
Officers think he broke into the house before. Investigators say Sims was out of prison on probation at the time.
Shortly after the crime, Lammers' sister told News Channel 7, the murder could have been prevented if officers would have looked into the burglaries more closely. Police said they were aggressively looking for the criminal.
Prosecutors presented their forensic evidence Wednesday, but the defense did not call any witnesses. News Channel 7 will continue to follow this trial.
