Berea Brush Fire Cause Will Remain a Mystery

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Fire officials say they are going to let a brush fire near Berea burn itself out.

The State Forestry Commission contained the blaze Sunday by
digging a fire wall around the area.

Authorities say the fire burned up to 20 acres in some woods
about a half-mile from a neighborhood.

Berea Fire Chief Gary Brock says the blaze started on a dirt
path sometimes used by motorcycles but they still don't know for sure what started
the blaze since they are no eye witnesses. He did tell News Channel 7 that "something careless was done," to start the fire.

Brock says they have been out six times since Sunday to put out hot spots. Because it is such a remote area, Brock said the department had to shuttle in water.

He says it could take 10 days for the fire to burn out, because it was such a dry area.
