Suspect in Murder Case Found Incompetent to Stand Trial

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

In Laurens County courthouse today Arthur Bixby -- a suspect in the 2003 slaying of a Abbeville County police sergeant and constable -- was found incompetent to stand trial after firing his lawyer for the fourth time.

In addition to denying Bixby's motion to fire his attorney, the judge also denied a motion by the attorney and Bixby to be released.

Bixby has multiple health issues that were mentioned during the hearing. Dementia was cited as the reason Bixby was found incompetent. At this point, Bixby will continue to be monitored by doctors.

According to the solicitor in the case, the next step for prosecutors is to petition the probate court to commit Bixby.

Bixby allegedly shot Sergeant Danny Wilson and Constable Donnie Outz because he, and his family, were upset that the state was taking part of their land for road construction.

Bixby's wife Rita and their son Steven have already been convicted in the case.
