A heat advisory is in effect for the Upstate Tuesday from noon until 6:00 p.m. Chief Meteorologist Christy Henderson says that highs will once again reach the upper 90s, and the combination of heat and humidity will make heat exhaustion and even heat stroke possible through the afternoon. Drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen and light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and take numerous breaks inside if you can't stay in the air-conditioning all the time.
The heat will be broken in a few locations in the afternoon with widely scattere thunderstroms that will fire up in advance of an approaching weak cold front. This front will be in the area for a couple of days and will help to moderate temperatures by Wednesday and Thursday in addition to giving some folks some much-needed rain.
In addition to lots of heat, a code orange ozone action day is in effect for the N.C. mountains on Tuesday with moderate air quality forecast for the Upstate and the valleys in Western N.C.
