A minivan hit a telephone pole Thursday morning in Greenville knocking out power for about 2,000 residents in town. As of 3:09 p.m., Duke Energy had managed to restore power to all but nine households.
The Greenville Police Department reported that the accident broke the pole leaving the transformer suspended in the air at Buncombe and Butler Roads, where the accident occured.
Power was knocked out from Buncombe and Butler out to Poinsett Highway.
Power lines are down in the roads and it will take several hours to repair. Duke Energy reported 1,944 outages in Greenville county at 11:30am Thursday.
