The S.C. Highway Patrol confirms no one was inside a pickup truck that was pulled out of Lake Hartwell Monday. Dive teams from Oconee County pulled the four-door pickup truck out around 11:30 a.m.
Oconee County Emergency Management Director Rodney Burdette says rescue crews and the dive team went in to search the water at the Friendship boat landing at Coneross Creek Road in Seneca.
Burdette says the vehicle appeared to be in five to six feet of water. A tow truck pulled the truck out of the water to shore. The Highway Patrol says the truck was empty when they examined it on land.
Investigators believe the truck may have been in the water for several years, but only became visible now because of the low levels on Lake Hartwell because of the drought.
