Trees came crashing down in Woodruff, and power outages reported all over the Upstate

After some strong storms passed through the Upstate Thursday night, trees and power lines were ripped down in many parts, leaving some without power.

The hardest hit area was Spartanburg County, more specifically, Woodruff, where strong winds blew down lots of trees. A huge one came down in Marcia McMahand's yard, crashing through her dining room. Luckily, no one was home or hurt.

She told us, "Never thought any of them would end up on the house." "No one was here; I got a call from my sister that a tree was in my yard and it went in my roof."

The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for parts of the Upstate and all of Western North Carolina until 9 p.m. Thursday.

A watch means that conditions are favorable for strong to severe storms with winds near 70 mph, 1.5 inch hail and dangerous lightning.

Cherokee, Greenville, Spartanburg and York counties are affected in the Upstate. When a watch becomes a warning, strong to severe thunderstorms are imminent.
