Many of us rely on the US Postal Service to get documents, medicine or other important deliveries. So when it’s not on time, it can leave you scrambling for help.
One upstate family says for weeks they have been getting their mail after dark. News Channel 7’s Dianne Derby managed to get a promise for an on time delivery in this 7 On Your Side Problem Solver.
“We never have really been satisfied with our mail delivery,” said Gerald Bailey, who is fed up after he says his mail has been delivered to his home after dark. “It comes late. One day it will be four o’clock, next day it will be seven o’clock. We never know when we’re going to get our mail.”
The problem is, Bailey’s wife is a diabetic and orders and receives her medicine through the mail. Twice recently they have had to take steps to get an emergency supply.”
“We go to the drug store and buy “X” amount of pills to tie her over until she gets her medication,” Bailey said.
So when it came time to get some help with the situation, Bailey decided to call on Seven On Your Side for help.
News Channel 7’s Dianne Derby spoke to the Spartanburg Postmaster about the situation. He told us that the carrier that’s normally on that route has since moved on to another, so in the meantime they have had to use other people to fill in. But, he did assure me they would be receiving their mail on time.
Is that going to be a permanent thing> For now it is, until they have a permanent carrier in that position. We’ll see.
In the meantime, Bailey’s just glad he won’t have to wait for medicine his wife cannot do without.
“They went out of their way to make sure we get our mail and I appreciate that,” said Bailey. “That goes a long way.”
The United States Postal Service told News Channel 7 that all mail should be delivered by 5 pm. If you have a problem with your delivery service, document it by calling 1-800 ASK USPS.
You can also e-mail your complaint to the USPS through WSPA.com. There we have a link set up for you to frequently asked questions that can address a host of mail delivery issues.
