CNN is reporting a heartbreaker of a story, half a world away. It broke my heart, and reminded me, that even on our worst day we have it pretty good.
An 11 year old is fighting back tears as his parents take him to the orphanage. His name is Ahri, and he lives in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Family member tell him, "be tough" and grandma whispers, "sorry you have to go."
The family is broke. They can't support everyone, they can't provide an education for their child. They know the orphanage can. His mother hopes he'll grow up and do something useful for his country, to pull Indonesians out of their prison of poverty.
Ahri's parents make 2 to 3 dollars a day. Half their money goes to rent, Dr. Sanja Gupta reports.
There isn't enough money to feed Ahri's young brothers.
It's a reality playing out over and over in third world countries.
A reality that makes you very thankful, for your own blessings.
