News Channel 7 Political Analyst Doug Smith says tonight's runoff results are a continuation of the "bloodbath" that occured two weeks ago. The only legislative incumbent from Spartanburg to win his seat this primary was Keith Kelly. Jim Ritchie, Ralph Davenport and Bob Walker all went down to defeat this time, and current House member Scott Talley lost his bid for a Senate seat to Lee Bright.
Smith says that tonight's results are a, "Shot across the bow. It shows that you just can't run and say you are a Republican, you are expected to act and vote like a Republican." Smith goes on to say that November could be just as interesting. "Will the anti-incumbent attitude seen tonight continue to November, and will it bleed over to the Democrats running as well? It will be very interesting."
