Longtime Union County Sheriff Howard Wells has lost his bid for another term as sheriff. Former deputy David Taylor defeated Wells 3468-2634 with 100 percent of the precincts reporting. Wells conceded the race before the final numbers came in. Wells had come under increasing fire lately from citizens, with one group going so far as creating a website challenging Wells and his tenure.
Taylor will face Republican challenger Freddie Gault in November.
