GREENVILLE (AP) - A legal file says the man charged in the strangling death of a Clemson University student may have used a broken radio to fashion a knife to injure detention officers.
Jerry Buck Inman has been in a private cell in Pickens County awaiting a death penalty trial for two years. But The Greenville News reported Sunday that a warrant in Inman's legal file says detention officers found the remnants of a radio and what they say was a plastic homemade knife.
The warrant says it was designed for the solitary purpose of inflicting injury to an officer.
Inman has been charged with murder, rape and kidnapping in the death of Tiffany Marie Souers, of Ladue, Mo. Authorities said the bikini top used to strangle her was still wrapped around her neck when she was found in her off-campus apartment in May.
