FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - Attorneys for the South Carolina teen accused of plotting to blow up his high school are expected to argue their client doesn't need further mental evaluation.
Attorneys for Ryan Schallenberger are expected to argue at a hearing Monday afternoon in Florence that the 18-year-old doesn't need another evaluation because one psychiatrist has already deemed him competent to stand trial.
Last week, Dr. Harold Morgan said in court documents he thought Schallenberger was able to help in his defense.
Prosecutors have asked that Schallenberger be evaluated at a federal facility. A federal agent has testified that he told police he wanted to die, go to heaven and kill Jesus.
Schallenberger was arrested April 19. He faces several charges, including attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
