Less butter for your buck.
A tube of Country Crock butter used to weigh three pounds but it now weighs two pounds thirteen ounces. "I guess they're trying to ease the pain instead of just raising the prices," Larry Lepold said.
This isn't the first time the manager of Publix has seen a food manufacture lower the weight of a product. "When we had the coffey shortage a lot of companies went to doing that. I don't think it was misleading anyone" Lepold said.
Lepold says wheat products and other commodities are costing more because of the rising transportation costs.
Publix is trying to alleviate some of the pain through bonus buys and coupons. "We do encourage the use of coupons and we do double those to help customers out," Lepold said.
