The state’s Democratic Party has a team of attorneys ready to investigate possible problems at the polls.
The party plans to watch the results at The Zone, an conference area inside Williams Bryce Stadium. Party leaders will not arrive until the polls close.
The party says it has received complaints from across the state, starting with broken voting machines. While WSPA has reported about a few broken and unused machines in the Upstate, the party says most of the broken machines reported were from the coastal voting precincts.
The party says it is also having problems with county poll officials not allowing poll watchers close enough to the registration, checking-in process. Poll watchers make sure county election officials do not turn away legitimate voters away, and provide help to those who need getting appropriate identification.
The party has a phone bank open and a team of lawyers stationed across the state. If the problem sounds serious, it will send an attorney to a polling location.
“I would tell people not to be discouraged by any issues that they are having, not leave the polls without voting, even if you need to request a provisional ballot. Request that provisional ballot and make sure your voice is heard. This is far too important of an election for you not to cast your vote,” Keiana Page, South Carolina Democratic Party Spokesperson
Paige isn’t aware of any significant problems in the Upstate as of 4:00 p.m.
