(AP) Officials with the Barack Obama campaign say they don't expect an announcement of a new chief of staff for at least another day.
Still, party officials say they've learned that Obama has chosen Illinois Congressman Rahm Emanuel for that post. It would mark Obama's first selection for his administration. If Emanuel accepts, it would mark a return to the White House. During the Clinton administration, he served as a political and policy adviser.
There's also word from several Democrats that John Kerry is actively seeking appointment as secretary of State.
Meanwhile, several prominent Democrats say there's uncertainty about the extent to which lobbyists would be invited to work in the new administration. As a candidate, Obama often said lobbyists would not run his White House.
