COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Officials at Benedict College in Columbia have canceled afternoon classes so students can attend a rally in celebration of Democrat Barack Obama's historic presidential win.
Spokeswoman Kymm Hunter says Benedict President David Swinton wanted students at the historically black college to be able to spend time celebrating Wednesday.
Hunter said the school had invited local officials to participate in the rally, including state NAACP Chairman Lonnie Randolph.
Hunter said she had also reached out to Anton Gunn, who led Obama's campaign in South Carolina and was elected to the state House on Tuesday.
