DeMint Statement on President-Elect Barack Obama
WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) made the following statement:

"Senator Obama ran an impressive campaign and regardless of what you think of his policies, his victory is historic. Our country has come a long way and it should make every American proud today.

"Despite his liberal record, Senator Obama won by embracing conservative principles including tax cuts and spending restraint. I hope he keeps his word and will work with conservatives in Congress to keep taxes low, balance the nation's budget and promote economic growth. He has a powerful opportunity to govern effectively but he needs to show leadership and restrain the liberals in his own party.”
