Investigators in Pickens and Oconee Counties say a major theft ring was busted Wednesday night. They say three people wre arrested for burglaries at 12 businesses in Oconee County, Pickens County and Rabun County, Georgia.
The thefts began in September in Oconee, where stores were broken into at night and several items were taken, including safes. Investigators from Pickens and Oconee Counties shared leads to make a break in the case.
33 year old Luther Brian Marcus, of Pickens is now under arrest. Both agencies in conjunction with the Clayton Georgia Police Department located the two other suspects Wednesday night at a motel in Clayton, Georgia. 39 year old Rudi Samya Murphy, and Jimmy Edward Trammell, age 37, both of Walhalla are currently in jail in Rabun County.
According to the sheriff's office:
The trio faces approximately 70 charges that include burglary, larceny, and safecracking just in Oconee County. They also are arrest warrants out for them in Pickens and Rabun counties for similar charges. Since Oconee County borders two states and numerous jurisdictions, investigators at the sheriff’s office have maintained close working relationships with adjoining agencies.
