Two upstate fire departments will be among 11 fire departments throughout South Carolina who will receive grants that will help provide equipment and training.

The Landrum Fire Department and West Pelzer Fire Department each received over $81,000 as part of the Operations and Safety program grant. The grant will provide funds that will be used for training wellness and fitness programs, including the purchase of firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment and modifications to fire stations and facilities.

Senator Lindsey Graham made the announcement as part of a $415,000 initiative to provide funds for the fire departments.

"Firefighters and emergency service personnel dedicate themselves to protecting the health and safety of South Carolinians," said Graham. "These grants will help our local fire departments and rescue squads by providing them the means to obtain the best equipment and training available."

Landrum will receive 81,225, while West Pelzer will receive $81,164.
