According to information on the Web site of the Highway Patrol, a wreck was reported in Greenville at 440 Pumpkintown Road near North River Road.
One person was killed, said Kathy Hiles of the Highway Patrol. The car was driving over the speed limit, went off the road and struck a telephone pole.
The victim was not wearing a seatbelt, Hiles said.
Officials haven't identified the victim.
