Byrnes H.S. Honors Fallen Florida Football Star

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

Byrnes High School completed work Friday morning to a tribute to the late member of a team from Florida that will face the Rebels tonight.

A number 7 has been painted on the grass, on the visitor's side of Nixon Field to honor Norman "Pooh" Griffith. The star running back wore number 7 while serving as captain of the Pahokee (FL) High School football team.

Griffith, 18, was killed after he was shot in the head as he drove away from a postgame dance in Belle Glade on September 27 after an altercation, authorities said.

Griffith had scholarship offers to several Division I schools, including Iowa State, Middle Tennessee State and Ball State. He also was drawing interest from West Virginia, Clemson and Pittsburgh, coaches said.

Byrnes High has also made thousands of ribbons that will be worn by fans tonight. Byrnes faces Pahokee Friday night in Duncan at 7:30pm. The game will be televised nationally by ESPNU.
