Tonight is the final debate between John McCain and Barack Obama, and a USC journalism professor who used to be in charge of CNN’s political coverage says the stakes are extremely high. Sid Bedingfield was with CNN for 20 years.
"It's late innings. McCain is clearly, poll after poll shows him trailing. He needs to start turning this around. Can't turn it around in one night, but he needs to start that process and soon. Status quo means Obama wins. So McCain really has a burden on him to make something happen," Bedingfield says.
As for Obama, he says the Democratic nominee only needs to avoid a major mistake. “I make the analogy he's like the boxer. It's in a late round. He's ahead on points. He needs to keep jabbing and stay away. And I think that's what you'll see him do tonight. He'll return over and over to this theme of, 'Look what 8 years has brought you. It's time for a change.'"
