ATLANTA (AP) - New numbers show Georgia saw the second largest increase in unemployment in the nation in September.
Data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics Tuesday show the state saw an over-the-month employment level decrease of 22,300 jobs in September.
That's down from the 24,800 decrease in the number of jobs state labor officials reported from August to September, but still places Georgia second only to Michigan.
That state has led the nation in joblessness since 2006 and saw 28,300 jobs dry out over September.
Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 6.5 percent in September, the highest rate in 16 years.
