Four people were killed in the crash on September 19, but two music industry stars - former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity DJ Adam Goldstein - survived the accident and are recovering from their injuries.
The jet was trying to take off from Columbia Metropolitan Airport after a concert in the city earlier that evening. The Learjet Model 60 was attempting takeoff just before midnight when witnesses say sparks were observed as the airplane traveled along the runway.
The jet was traveling at about 136 knots (156.5mph) when the crew tried to abort the takeoff, but they were unable to stop before going through the end of the runway.
The airplane came to rest nose-up on the side of a hill across a road from the end of the airport property after striking airport lighting, a perimeter fence and concrete marker posts.
The Learjet was destroyed by fire after the crash.
The first piece of tire debris was observed about 2,300 feet from the departure end of the runway according to the NTSB. Prior to the first piece of tire, five small pieces of broken taxiway reflector adhesive were found. The wheel sets were found with very little rubber other than tire beads attached.
The left and right main gear tire rims scarred the runway surface according to the report. NTSB investigators write that the main landing gear pistons and wheel sets with the brake assemblies were found about 150 feet past the end of the runway.
One of the surviving passengers reported no difficulty opening the exit to get out of the burning aircraft.
