Cold high pressure is settling into the Southeast setting us up for what could be the chilliest night of the season so far with some snow in the North Carolina mountains (mainly along the Tennessee border).
A freeze watch is in effect for the Upstate overnight into early Tuesday morning, with lows that may approach the lower 30s in some areas and stay there long enough to kill unprotected vegetation.
A winter weather advisory in in effect along the North Carolina/Tennessee border from 11pm night through 2pm Tuesday afternoon. Snow showers are expected to develop in these areas, with elevations above 3000 feet perhaps picking up an inch or two of snow with lesser amounts in the valleys.
Expect mostly clear skies in the Upstate tonight and through the rest of the week as high pressure builds in. Temperatures will gradually warm later this week. Once the moisture moves out of the mountains by tomorrow evening, quiet weather will prevail into the weekend.
A weak cold front arrives around Sunday with just a slight chance for some mountain rain showers.
