Looking For A Job? Here's Some Companies That Are Hiring

»  Comments | Post a Comment

If you're looking for work, you know how tough it is. The Employment Security Commission says there are 10% to 15% fewer job openings in the Upstate right now and many more people competing for those jobs. We found out exactly which companies are hiring right now so you job seekers know exactly where to apply.

Whether you're a seasoned manager or an entry level worker, some Upstate companies, like the Dish Network in Spartanburg, are rolling out new jobs. They're filling 100 positions.

Said Ray White with Dish Network, "80% of those are hourly positions, typically material handlers, testers, and electronic associate testers. And we have supervisory and managerial positions available."

Ben Davis at the Employment Security Commission says Upstate companies in distribution are hiring right now. TFE Logisitics in Spartanburg is currently filling 500 jobs. Said Davis, "We've seen some expansion in that field."

Davis says the healthcare industry is also hiring because people always need medical care.

Add to that the businesses that provide goods and services people need, such as grocery stores, auto mechanics, and bookkeeping. Davis says they will keep hiring because many Baby Boomers are retiring.

Said Davis, "2008 is the first year that Baby Boomers start turning 62. So we're starting that trend of Baby Boomers leaving the market."

Hospitality and entertainment businesses are also offering jobs. And if you're looking for holiday work, retailers are hiring now. But there are fewer jobs in all these fields, and more people applying, so prepare. Said Davis, "Make sure your resume is 100% up to speed. Make sure your interview skills are 100% up to speed.'

Don't be discouraged. Some companies are actually growing even though the economy is shrinking. Said Ray White with Dish Network, "We're certainly committed to offering the best service to our customers. We believe we do that through hiring and retaining our own employees."

To apply for jobs at the Dish Network, you can apply in person at the plant at 525 Dunnett Court in Spartanburg. Or go to www.dishcareers.com.

You'll find hundreds of jobs listed on the Employment Security Commission's website at www.sces.org. You can apply online and find a workforce center near you.
