How will the conversion impact my cable/satellite service?
Are you watching News Channel 7 on cable or satellite? If the answer is yes, you're ready for the DTV conversion this June. You don't need to do a thing.
What if I’m using an antennae or rabbit ears?
If you have an old-style analog TV, and it's hooked up to maybe some rabbit ear antennas or an outdoor antenna, you need to get busy. You've got some decisions to make. Your options: get yourself a converter box, maybe sign up for cable or satellite, or get yourself a new TV with a digital tuner."
What’s a convertor box?
A converter box lets your old-style analog TV, hooked up to an antenna, see the new digital signal. Now if you are on cable or satellite, or you have a TV with a digital tuner, you don't need this.
How do I get a convertor box?
If you need a converter box, hopefully you already have one or these red coupons from the federal government that look like credit cards. They'll save you money on the box. Each household can get as many as 2 coupons. You can order them via telephone or the internet. Order them now because they can take several weeks to arrive.
The coupons are good for $40. So you'll need to come up with about another $20 to buy a converter box. Now, if you've got the coupons, go ahead and use them. They're good for only 90 days.
OK. I’ve got a convertor box, but my signal isn’t coming in so clear. What should I do?
If you hook up the converter box, and the TV picture doesn't look so hot, check your antenna. The old analog signals are on VHF. The new digital signals are on UHF. Make sure your TV is hooked up to a UHF antenna.
Do I need to by a new TV?
So is this the end for your analog TV? Well, you can still use it as long as it's hooked up to one of these converter boxes. But only a TV with a digital tuner can give you the full picture and sound quality of DTV.
