MIAMI (AP) - Hurricane Hanna, category 1, forms in Caribbean; warnings have been issued for Bahamas, Turks and Caicos
Storm Team 7 reports Hurricane Hanna could pose a threat to the Carolinas later this week.
Meteorologist Dan Bickford says the official forecast track from the National Hurricane Center brings this storm to the Savannah River on Friday with the circulation moving rapidly across the Upstate Friday night.
There are also several computer models Storm Team 7 uses to forecast these tracks that indicate this storm moving more towards Myrtle Beach, while others move the storm into Florida.
The more eastward track would limit our chances of rain and wind, while anything farther west could bring torrential rain and gusty conditions.
The National Hurricane Center reports Hanna had sustained winds near 75mph as of 2:00 Monday afternoon. The storm is located about 100 miles from the Bahamas. Hanna was moving to the west at five miles an hour.
North Carolina Governor Easley asked citizens to be prepared for the possibility that Hanna may hit his state.
“I am concerned that people will be watching Gustav and fail to pay close enough attention to Hanna,” Easley said.
Easley asked that all citizens prepare a disaster kit. Get instructions here. Also, check here for disaster information from North Carolina.
The National Hurricane Center reports little strengthening is expected over the next 48 hours, but Hanna could easily be a hurricane before it makes landfall in the southeastern United States.
