An Upstate County is going green by putting your garbage to work. It's all going on at the Enoree Landfill in Greenville County. The 'Gas to Energy Green Power Project' collects methane gas from decaying trash and converts it into energy that is sold to Duke Energy so we can use it.
Greenville County Councilman Butch Kirven said, "Rather than just let that gas be burned off or go into the atmosphere which would degrade our air quality, we are putting it to productive use and in the process Greenville County is going to make revenue out of this project".
Organizers say the energy collected can power 2,000 homes a year. And the reduction in greenhouse gases is equivilant to pollution that would come from driving 25,000 cars!
