RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Nearly 20 historic sites will be closed due to the expected impact of Tropical Storm Hanna.
The N.C. Department of Cultural Resources announced Friday that 18 state historic sites will be closed Saturday, including the state Capitol. All nine state historic sites east of Interstate 95 will be closed. They include Historic Bath, Bentonville Battlefield, Brunswick Town, CSS Neuse and Roanoke Island Festival
Park.
Among the sites in the Piedmont that will be closed are Duke Homestead, Historic Stagville, Alamance Battlefield and Town Creek Indian Mound.
All are in either tropical storm warning areas or high wind watch areas. The sites will assess the situation after Hanna passes through and will make decisions regarding reopening at that time.
