MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - There has been plenty of rain and
wind, but not much damage as Tropical Storm Hanna moved past the
Grand Strand.
The worst weather actually came a few hours before the center of
the storm brushed Horry and Georgetown counties early Saturday
morning.
National Weather Service meteorologist Ron Steve says Hanna is a
strange storm with the heaviest winds spread out well away from the
center and most of the rain to its west.
Authorities say heavy rain and a storm surge of two feet closed
U.S. 17 near downtown Georgetown. The area frequently floods.
Flooding was also reported in North Myrtle Beach, where more
than three inches of rain fell Friday.
Winds were gusting to near 50 mph, especially near the North
Carolina state line.
Several smaller roads have flooded and a few trees have been
reported down. No injuries or major damage has been reported.
