Judy Jerin of Greenwood, Larry Thompson of Anderson, and Ron Howitz of Travelers Rest joined more than 20 volunteers from the Upstate region as they head for Texas.
The Upstate Chapter of the American Red Cross told us Wednesday three more volunteers from the area were headed to Texas to help the state recover from Hurricane Ike.
Judy Jerin of Greenwood, Larry Thompson of Anderson, and Ron Howitz of Travelers Rest joined more than 20 volunteers from the Upstate region as they head for Texas.
Jerin will work with a shelter while Thompson and Howitz will be delivering meals to residents affected by the disaster.
To date, the Red Cross has dispatched more than 12,000 volunteers from across the nation in the last 11 weeks.
A release from the Red Cross stated this was more volunteers than the ARC sends out in a year.
The Red Cross says its Disaster Relief Fund has been depleted by all the disasters this year, including a record number of tornadoes, flooding in the Midwest and an active hurricane season.
