Greenville County Woman Feels Violated and Angry After Drive-By Purse Snatching at Haywood Mall

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Greenville County woman is nursing a bruised hip and elbow after a drive-by purse snatching at the Haywood Mall. It happened Wednesday just after noon.

Diane Mitchell was heading into Macy's when she thought she had been hit by the car. She fell to the ground, and went she got up, she says she realized a man driving by had hit her in the hip with his car mirror as he ripped her purse from her shoulder. Police have a description of the car and thief, but so far, he's still out there. Mitchell feels violated and angry. "I cancelled all my cards my cards. I cancelled everything, but still you think where is your identification? What did he do with it, and then you just cry and cry and cry, because I don't know where my stuff is. So last night I slept with this knife under my pillow."

Mitchell says she knows she was fortunate, because she remembers what happened in 2001. Seventy-four year old Juliet Stukenbroeker was in the Haywood Mall parking lot, but she had her purse strapped across her body. When it was snatched, she was dragged and later died from her injuries...

Police are looking for a grayish-green Ford Escort station wagon possibly with some type of gold striping.
