Mike Gardner was raised in Spartanburg and attended Spartanburg County Public Schools. He is married and his son attends Boiling Spring High School.
In January 2007 Gardner retired from the South Carolina Highway Patrol with 25 years of service. During his tenure as a Trooper he served on the Executive Protection Detail for the late Governor Carroll A. Campbell, Jr. Gardner was promoted to Captain in 1999 and served as the Upstate Patrol Commander consisting of Anderson, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens and Spartanburg counties.
During Gardner's state service he received a Department of Public Safety Leadership Commendation and the “Order of the Palmetto” ,the highest award given by the State of South Carolina.
After retiring from the Highway Patrol, Gardner began working with American Services, Inc.
He currently serves as the Director of the Hospital Security Division for American Services, Inc. and is a member of several professional associations such as the International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security, the American Society for Industrial Security, the South Carolina Trooper’s Association, the American Association of State Troopers and the Boiling Springs Business Association. Gardner and his family are members of Lake Bowen Baptist Church.
