Greenville County Sheriff's Deputies tell News Channel 7, two pit bulls got looose then attacked a boy, mauled a dog, and then turned on them.
The attacks happened in the area of Drewry Road and Nova Street in Taylors, after 2:00 pm Wednesday.
Deputies say a 12-year-old boy was bitten by one of two bit bulls that were roaming around the area.
The dogs then jumped a nearby fence into another yard and mauled a dog to death.
When deputies arrived and saw the attack, the dogs charged one of the officers, forcing him to shoot and kill the animals.
The Greenville Co. Sheriff has determined they deputy who shot and killed the two pit bulls was following standard procedure.
We spoke with the child who was attacked. David Howell said, "I was like I hope he doesn't keep on attacking me. I was trying to yell, trying to kick him a bit."
The boy was taken to the hospital by his father, but is doing okay. His father told News Channel 7 he is just glad it wasn't worse.
Deputies say the owner of the pit bulls was out of town, but could face charges.
