A historic church collapses.
A portion of Caroline Street in Laurens is closed because the Bethel A.M.E. Church is crumbling down.
The back wall of the 107-year-old church, which is on the national historic registry, collapsed Sunday.
The church building hasn't been used in about 10 years because of its condition.
About 5 years ago the congregation put almost $150,000 into a new roof but it didn't help.
The church is working with a contractor in order to demolish the building.
The congregation hopes to one day build a new church on the site.
