The combination of the down economy and the desire for organic food is turning more and more city yards into mini farms.
Residents within the city limits of Asheville have gotten the city council to loosen the restrictions of raising chickens for their eggs.
Now people with smaller yards will have an opportunity.
Those raising the chickens say they get a better quality eggs for less.
A group called Asheville City Chickens has evolved from this movement and they want to help people in both Asheville and other communities begin to raise their own chickens.
