Mauldin High School will remain closed on Friday while district officials wait to be notified of test results to determine if any students attending a band festival in Florida have the flu and, if so, the type of flu.
The school was closed Thursday due to reports of students with flu-like symptoms and a national heightened alert regarding the swine flu. Sixteen to eighteen of seventy students at the school who went on an Advanced Band Trip last week to Disney World have reported flu-like symptoms.
All Mauldin High families are being called Thursday afternoon to inform them of the school closing. Mauldin High students will also not attend any classes at the Fine Arts Center or career centers. All extra-curricular activities and games involving Mauldin High students are also cancelled.
Mauldin High is the only affected Greenville County school. Other schools continue to closely monitor students and to report any cases of flu-like symptoms to the district’s coordinator of health services.
