A Union County congregation has a new beginning after a fire destroyed their place of worship two years ago.
A fire leveled Saint Luke Baptist Church in October of 2007. "We longed to be back in our own sanctuary, but it was a time to re group and bring us together. It was a time of loss and we realized that," Reverend George Shell, Jr. said.
On Sunday, the new church opened. "Today is exciting it's a blessing to be alive and I'm just so excited I don't know what to do with myself, " the Pastor said.
The new church resembles the old historic building but with a few change. The new building seats twice the amount of people, has a fellowship hall, and a sprinkler system.
Saint Luke Baptist Church was formerly Beaty Chapel, which was a frame building erected in 1903.
