Sloan Construction will build a new facility in Cherokee County and add 40 new jobs near Blacksburg.
The company intends to build an aggregate mining facility for material to be primarily used in road construction.
Sloan expects to begin construction of the new facility in the fourth quarter of this year, and have the facility in operation bin the first half of 2010. The total investment will be $15 million according to the company and the South Carolina Department of Commerce.
"South Carolina and Cherokee County have always provided us with an excellent business environment and available labor force. We appreciate all the support we've received from state and local officials in making this project a reality," said Scott Fant, manager of business development for Sloan Construction Company in a written release.
Sloan Construction plans to begin the hiring process after the permitting process with the Department of Health and Environmental Control is completed.
Cherokee County had an unemployment rate of 17.6% in June according to the S.C. Employment Security Commission. That is the second highest jobless rate among counties in the Upstate and was 11th overall among 46 counties in the state.
Sloan's corporate headquarters is located in Duncan. The company also maintains regional offices in Blacksburg, Columbia and Winston-Salem, NC.
