South Carolina is a gun buyer’s haven, according to a report from the Brady Center.
The report shows South Carolina as one of the weakest gun law states in the nation. Part of the reason, according to the report, is because South Carolina does not require a waiting period or have a limit on monthly gun purchases.
Spartanburg Public Safety confiscated 85 guns between January 2008 and August of 2008.
Right now, they have more than 175 guns in the evidence room scheduled to be destroyed.
Spartanburg Public Safety has one investigator completely dedicated to gun crimes. "I think people would be shocked to know the amount of guns out on the street at any one time, There is a lot of people walking around with guns," Lieutenant Ron Cantrell said.
Tommy Cato with Morgan Square Pawn says most of his customers are hunters, but he still worries the wrong person may come into his shop. "You just have to be real careful, because when you do sell a gun and it gets in the wrong hands, you’re morally obligated,” he said.
