Losing your keys is one thing but losing two 3’ by 4’ memorial plaques is a different thing. Officials in Asheville are trying to figure out the mystery.
The plaques held the names of about 100 servicemen from Western North Carolina who died in both the Korean and Vietnam wars.
The plaques used to hang along side a World War 1 and 2 memorial at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
During renovations a few years back, the memorials were removed and placed in storage for their future home at Memorial Stadium. But when it came time for the dedication this past Memorial Day, the bronze plaques were missing.
It's not known if the plaques were just misplaced or stolen. Asheville Police are investigating just in case the plaques were stolen.
A $1,000 reward for the return of the plaques is being offered by City Councilman Carl Mumpower. If you have any information you can contact him at 828-252-8390.
