James Baskerville pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and death or bodily injury to a child in utero during the commission of a violent crime, according to the Oconee County Clerk Of Court. He was sentenced to 30 years.
Baskerville is accused of murdering a pregnant woman.
Investigators say Baskerville shot 29-year-old Karla Benson in the head and shoulder at Foothills Regional Pain Center in Seneca back in June. They say he tried to take his own life. Benson was six months pregnant.
Baskerville's attorney argued he should have bond because he needs a sterile environment for his wounds and he is also on a feeding tube. The prosecutor argued the Oconee County jail is able to care for him and he should be considered a flight risk.
Baskerville is charged with murder.
