The body of a woman discovered late Friday night in a Greenville County creek has been identified and the case is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
Greenville County Deputy Coroner Scott Ramsey says that an autopsy performed Saturday morning identified the victim as 24-year old Allison Southerland Craine, of Greenville. According to Lt. Tim Ridgeway with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff's deputies responded to a call around 9:15 Friday evening on Lakeside Road, near Stables Road, after an eldelry couple found Southerland's body about 100 feet below a bridge in a creek. Sources tell News Channel 7 that Southerland was found naked and she was face up laying in the creek.
Authorities say that the cause of death is blunt force trauma.
Southerland Craine was the mother of a two daughters. "They basically lost everything they have, other than us as a family. They lost their mother," Gary Vaughn said about his cousin's two children.
"I think the ultimate question is why it would be why? Why?" he asked.
Stephen Anders says his family will not rest until they find out what happened to his niece. "Any information would help," Anders said. "We need closure."
Investigators tell News Channel this is the third body in three years discovered in that area.
