Barbara Bailey lives next to a dilapidated home on West Bramlett Road in Greenville County. She said nearly a year ago it was officially condemned by the county, but claims since then nothing has been done to clean it up. Bailey said it's a breeding ground for all sorts of bugs and critters
"I'm fighting snakes, putting out mothballs," Bailey said.
Bailey and her neighbors said they've asked Greenville County for help but can't get anyone to tell them when it will be demolished.
"We have called the county several times and they do nothing about it," said neighbor Dawn Brooks.
"You tell them, you beg them, 'Please do something, we're clean people around here'," said Bailey. "Do you see anything done yet?"
Neighbors say the home and property around it pretty much looks and smells like a garbage dump. When you look at the house you can see window coverings hanging out the window. On the front porch you see all sorts of furniture and other debris. And on the side of the home you can see clothing and garbage piled up.
"Something needs to be done," said Brooks.
For more than three months 7 On Your Side has been asking the county for answers. We were told funding for this type of project had been used up and wouldn't be available until the next fiscal year which began in July. So, when July passed we started asking for more answers and finally got some good news. On Monday Greenville County spokesperson Bob Mihalic told us the demolition could be completed within 30 days. He said the holdup was mostly because of "due process" which takes time.
Now these neighbors finally can breathe a sigh of relief knowing this stinky eyesore soon will be gone forever.
